as you know the famous Facebook Chat Re-Enabler (old thread's OP available below) stopped working when Facebook updated their app to the v28, now after many hours spent finding a solution in the previous months I'm proud to present this new solution!

I state that personally I don't want to be forced to install an app (which I hate for many reasons) only to use Facebook chat or send/receive its messages. 

Some disadvantages of Facebook+Messengerinstalled at same time:

• Increased battery drain: main thread+background ones for services and receivers are always active
• Increased load on general resources (like CPU and RAM memory) for the reasons mentioned above
• You're forced to install another app to chat while you could safely use an unique (Facebook app)

Advantages of Facebook+Facebook Chat Enabler:

• Never executed by the operating system, meaning no more battery drain and no resource eating at all (Facebook app itself drains battery)
• Chat and send/receive messages in main Facebook app without Messenger

Since Reborn version's release I will not share Enabler's apks anymore (and you're not allowed to), but a simple app which allows you to download and install suggested Chat Enabler version for the Facebook app found on your device, called Facebook Chat Enabler Helper:

Warning: In case of devices which have Messenger installed out of the box and not user-uninstallable, Facebook Chat Enabler Helper can't uninstall it. This is the limitation of having Messenger in /system partition, therefore root is required to get rid of it. Do not blame me or my work for this, neither report it in the issue report. How to install Android KitKat in VMware Workstation

Recently I stumbled on an article which briefly explains the installation of Android KitKat 4.4 inVMware Workstation. I knew that previous version of Android worked fine (including network) inVMware Workstation – see this post, but some tweaks were necessary. I wanted to test the latest version of Android, to see how it looks like and if it’s true that VMware Workstation can be used for the job. And it seems that the tweak for the network card, when the change in the VMX file was necessary is no longer needed. I’ll walk you through the steps to install Android KitKat inVMware Workstation.

How to install Android KitKat in VMware Workstation? The steps:

1. Download the iso file from this page – the file is called android-x86-4.4-RC1.iso

2. Then create a new VM via the Wizard and connect the ISO (Workstation detects the new VM as FreeBSD).

3. Adjust the hardware of the VM and adjust the Memory. I put mine to 2Gb of RAM as most of today’s phones uses 2 gigs of RAM. Click next and use the arrows to go down to select the 4th option – Install Android Kitkat.

4. Select Create or modify partitions

5. Then create a new, primary partition and write down the changes.

  

6. Then select this partition to install Android KitKat.

7. Chose EXT3 as filesystem …..

8. Almost done, just validate the formatting of the media.

10. Validate the Read/Write possibility, otherwise you won’t be able to make any changes to this VM.

I’m not sure it’s here but during one moment it also asks you if you want to install GRUB as a boot loader. Says YES as without validating you won’t be able to boot up the system.

11. Let the installation rolling….

13. Then you’ll see a screen which shows you if you to run Android or reboot. You can go either way, but don’t forget to disconnect the ISO file before the next reboot otherwise you’ll start over and you’ll be presented with the LiveCD option again!

Ok, now you should see the VM booting into a configuration of Android, where you can personalize the system. As being said at the beginning, there is no necessary to tweak any other options, nor the VMX file for network access. The network works out of the box (I kept NAT as an option).

3	If the distribution does not automatically mount CD-ROMs, mount the VMware Tools virtual CD-ROM image.

For example, type mount /cdrom.

4	Change to a working directory, for example, /tmp.

5	Untar the VMware Tools tar file.

tar zxpf /cdrom/vmware-freebsd-tools.tar.gz

6	If the distribution does not use automounting, unmount the VMware Tools virtual CD-ROM image.

7	Run the installer and configure VMware Tools.

cd vmware-tools-distrib
./vmware-install.pl

Usually, the vmware-config-tools.pl configuration file runs after the installer file finishes running.

8	Follow the prompts to accept the default values, if appropriate for your configuration.

9	Follow the instructions at the end of the script.

Depending on the features you use, these instructions can include restarting the X session, restarting networking, logging in again, and starting the VMware User process. You can alternatively reboot the guest operating system to accomplish all these tasks.

What to do next

If a new virtual hardware version is available for the virtual machine, upgrade the virtual hardware.
